MaXXXine proves that Maxine “Fucking” Minx (and also Mia Goth, the actress who portrays her) is, indeed, a star. This third film in Ti West’s franchise pays homage to ‘80s slasher film, full of schlock, neon, and grime beneath the glamour. While X was a straight up horror movie and Pearl was a narrative powerhouse, this sits in the middle of the two. It’s lighter on horror elements but adds more mystery and character development for Maxine. The gore that is there, though, is gloriously gnarly and practical. A great conclusion to a solid series.
