dam,what a disappoint.
This was one of my most anticipated movies of 2024 and i can’t help but feel a little disappointed after watching? I feel like X and Pearl had such clear ideas of what they wanted to be and say and i feel like this one was such a mess in so many aspects. It’s not really eating anything new and the story just felt so jumbled and disconjonited. Maxine just felt weirdly out of character to me and there where all these awkward moments of silence whenever she was about to speak and it just felt very odd. Also the entire third act was so messy and odd like that’s where your taking it?? I like the idea of bringing her dad into the story as we see him throughout the 1st film preaching for Maxine to come out but he didn’t really do anything and he was just such a lame villian. I hated when maxine was like “i don’t talk to the police” like you couldn’t just say you knew those two girls and they where going to a party? Dam. And as much bad things i’ve said about this the film there where some things i liked. The editing (in the first half) was stellar and felt really stylised and there a couple quite cool kills. I feel like they didn’t really land the ending i feel like a better ending would’ve been the scene in her trailer when she says “you’re a fucking movie star.” Roll credits. that would’ve been such an iconic ending like especially as it would mirror her first line in X. Overall this is definitely the weakest film in the trilogy and it’s a good film it’s just nowhere up to the quality of X and Pearl.
