The Apprentice isn’t as hard-hitting a film as expectations made it out to be, though it’s still an interesting look at the rise of Trump aided by Cohn.
This is a film all about the performances. Sebastian Stan isn’t doing an impression but has absorbed all of Trump’s skin crawling mannerisms and posture - that pucker mouth, jutting jaw and puffed chest - and it’s quite uncanny without it feeling like a skit. Jeremy Strong is also terrific as expected. Whether there’s any Academy recognition may depend on what happens between November and January…??
Cool choice to change the cinematography style from film to video with the 70s to 80s jump too.
