I think this movie is really great, but it didn't know how to elaborate the real message behind it. most people (including I) must have left the cinema thinking that this such a anti-feminist movie, that is saying women are crazy and shouldn't be trusted, but I think the opposite; the real message is trying to teach us is that women can't let the patriarchy rule them, they should trust themselves or they'll die (literally or just in the inside).
we can see that after anne's character son died, she was devasted and nobody supported her, every person in this film said she was crazy or she should get more help; imagine the person you most love in the world dying and not one single soul helps you through it! it was clear she couldn't pretend anymore everything was ok, so she decided to fought that repressive system that told her she should be happy all the time just because she is a woman.
the other example is jessica's character. after she felt like her life and her son was at risk, she followed her instincts and fought everybody that told she was crazy, 'cause she didn't want to be hurt anymore; but she was not "strong enough", after her husband threatened of hospitalizing her, she backed of.
after she stopped following her guts, she died and anne didn't, 'cause she didn't let anybody stop her for doing what she thought she should do, and I think this could mean that women can't let men or the society tell them how they should feel or what they should do, they need to be free or otherwise they would die (on the inside or outside).
Anyways, this wasn't a pleasant view and was a bit of a disappointment as well, but it was very good 'cause 90% of it was jessica's face!! some things to complain, the main one is that they should've elaborated a bit better, but it was good overall.
