i loved this a lot more than i thought i would. to start off, the opening credits and introduction were absolutely beautiful, as was the score (sat through all the credits just to listen to it), it was beautifully shot, at one point towards the end my jaw literally dropped and i was just kind of in awe at how good it all looked. everyone delivered fantastic performances, paul mescal, pedro pascal, denzel washington, connie nielsen, joseph quinn. i felt a lot more connected to the story than the first film and feel like the characters had a lot more personality. didn’t expect to like pedro pascal’s character as much as i did but he was great. the fight scenes were also a lot better than the original, less cuts so you could actually tell what was happening through all of it and i don’t really care if sharks in the colosseum was historically inaccurate, it was fucking sick.
one of my favourites of the year and paul mescal truly is a star
