A magical excursion through self importance and faith that NEVER fails to break my heart into a million pieces. THE reminder that everybody needs once a year, George Bailey speaking trauma towards all by following his emotionally gripping story. A fantastical romance and a powerful view on why you should live your life to the absolute fullest. An enchanting final act too, one that I genuinely think is up there with the most perfect final sections of a film ever. Some Unbelievably fucking powerful writing from Capra. Mastering parallelism and character perspectives to a completely new level.
Its ideas of expressing sorrow and grief is so innovative that it most likely began the wave of similar movies going for a similar concept in portraying their respective. While all being said, it’s still radiated in charm and consistently keeps a huge smile on your face. James Stewart is beyond amazing here too of course!!
Each character moulding and constructing Baileys story excellently. Potter being the face of humility, Mary being the picture of love, Violet representing unfulfilled wishes and lost potential, Gower displaying misery and neglect, and the angel being the mantle of hope. Not everyone gets their deserved endings, but that’s what makes it so real and important. A genuine screenplay that knows exactly what it’s doing and fucking nails it. Not just the best Christmas film ever made… but one of the best movies ever fucking made.
