Now that's my kind of kid-friendly movie. You know, one of those that takes its audience seriously. First of all I'm glad they went with a different protagonist this time with Miles Morales. Funnily enough, that's probably the tiniest chance the filmmakers took with this story. It is such a joy to follow him around at his new school, it is almost sad when the film turns into a superhero flick.
Yet only almost, because that part is also pretty amazing. The film offers quite the amount of angles on what it means to take responsibility, even and especially if life doesn't quite work out right. This is not only supported by a vibrant artstyle but by its plural: artstyles. This film is quite the looker. The only time it budges a tad too much to genre tropes is in its big and loud finale. Also, a few lessons get spelled out too much at the end.
