For my stance against the McCallisters, I've caught a lot of flack from friends. But I stand by my words, these horrible and filthy rich people had it coming. Again, how can they truly believe the police has nothing better to do than to check in with them before their first class flight to France. To be clear, I don't want any harm for little Kevin. But he can obviously handle himself.
The Christmas vibes are off the charts with this one. I don't know a movie that looks more like Christmas than this one. So, very rightfully, the film has once more earned its slot on Christmas Day afternoon. You know, a movie to put on where no one really has to pay attention, everyone has seen it a million times and if you have to leave for the kitchen halfway through, it doesn't matter. You can even doze off if you like. Then there's the score by John Williams that we could as well use as an official soundtrack for the Season.
My favourite part of the film is everything with the shovel guy. I really like when Buzz makes up the story of his murders; it's exactly what my cousin would have made up about some odd neighbour when we were kids. When Kevin gets to know him in the church is the moment that gets to me every time. It's beautifully written dialogue that reliably gives me a lump in my throat.
Home Alone is not the most amazing Christmas movie ever, but it is a reliably pleasant watch for the whole family.
