It’s a little too busy and sweaty for its own good. Not that the original was a shining example of taut narrative, but there are too many parts that feel a little too tacked on. Still, I love the energy and the creativity of the afterlife is strong, many cool death characters.
Speaking of, it’s a pretty clever way they handled the whole Jeffrey Jones situation, a great workaround. Everyone else is just fine, they’re present but nothing memorable.
I was pretty surprised at the Bava reference, funny stuff, and the final dream sequence with the baby felt like a direct De Palma homage. Those were very cool. I didn’t care for the song in the wedding scene or how long it went on, and it could have been closer to the original’s runtime. But I still liked more than I didn’t.
