I liked this more than I thought I would. Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo deliver such amazing performances and have incredible chemistry. The supporting cast goes crazy too, Jonathan Bailey and Michelle Yeoh were such scene stealers, and Peter Dinklage and Jeff Goldblum were nice surprises.
The visuals were a bit of an interesting choice, I feel like this is the one film that needs to be all bright and technicolor to give it that magical, dream-like feel. Everything looked and felt way too muted for my liking.
The soundtrack is obviously amazing, Defying Gravity will never not leave me with goosebumps. But what surprised me the most about this film was that I found the most powerful and moving moments to be in the quieter scenes between the musical numbers. The subtlety allowed some room to breathe and those moments to marinate and hit a little harder, and I really appreciated that.
