sometimes over-stylized, sometimes underutilized, but luckily at all times: entertaining. when Jennifer’s Body nails, it nails it in all the right places, letting bits of the bubbly, delusional dialogue and whateverisms dissolve into left-field as Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried are able to successfully knock their depiction of themselves as a unit and as a product of one-another well out of the park. perhaps the occasionally laughable dialogue leans a little more towards the film’s benefit, creating quotable lines that avoid stretching as far as inciting cringe, but still scrape into the pit of ridiculous “what?”’s in a useful intentional manner. it fixates on the infatuated and the traumatized in metaphorical and literal ways not to a grand extent, but far enough to cater to its tone effectively while creating something oddly unique and empathetic, all while looking good and boasting a peak late-2000s soundtrack. while not everything sticks and certain depths are left undiscovered, once it settles into its groove, it pulls most of itself together with a nice dash of horror and a bucket of blood by the end to finish on a high note.
