“Is it scary being a lady FBI Agent?”
“Yeah. Yeah, it is.”
A pretty dark, eerie and intense crime psychological thriller-horror from director Oz Perkins. This was so unsettling, from the get-go in the crazy opening sequence the tone of this film just made the hair on the back of your neck stand up. The camera work was incredible and loved how everything we were to focus on whether it was a character, car moving or a still shot you felt like something was about to happen all the time.. like something was going to appear in the background or come out of the frame which really intensified every scene and it honestly kept me on my toes the whole time. Also when something did happen the timing of it was well done where it didn’t feel lazy and generic.
Very well written plot I was so locked in from the start til the very end. The third act is where I think will have people deciding on where they land with this films rating and again I really appreciate the swing they took here and fresh out of my viewing overall I really enjoyed this film overall. The performances were great and my thoughts on probably the most divisive performance from Nicolas Cage (Longlegs) here I thought he was actually really good and done what was needed to be done to pull of a real unsettling act from a crazed serial killer, so no complaints for me. The main standout was Maika Monroe (Agent Lee Harker), the way she adapts to the mood or situation of a scene with not even any dialogue and just her facial expressions, fear, anxiety etc. at times is absolutely incredible. Loved seeing her in this role and thought she crushed it! This is definitely one of my favourites of 2024. Can honestly see myself rewatching this many more times and I’m always a fan of these mixture of genres especially when they’re well written, acted and make you think. Very good Film!
