I could not believe I was watching a studio horror movie that is part of a larger franchise. Forgot they could look this good and forgot they could feel like this. There are several moments where I thought I was watching a much older movie, witnessing a kind of horror classic in real-time. And I'm not even specifically referring to the homages to some of those classics, even though those are fucking awesome as well. Arkasha Stevenson feels like nothing short of a genius and Nell Tiger Free, who I had never even heard of, deserves an immediate rise to stardom more than possibly anyone. Unbelievable stuff from both of them. Not sure we'll get a bigger surprise than this all year.
