I’m a big fan of both X and Pearl, so it’s a bummer to admit this one underwhelmed me. There’s a lot of great elements: the practical effects, fun kills, and Mia Goth’s performance. But I can’t help but feel the script is pretty aimless, especially with a third act reveal that carries no emotional or thematic weight. There’s so much potential in this one to be great, but it’s just the biggest example of how your script makes or breaks the film. Unfortunately, it didn’t have me feeling invested as it had way to many ideas to latch onto.
