The first times I watched this film I had the classic take on the epilogue that it’s what could’ve been if they made different choices. Like the paths they didn’t take. But this time I saw it a little bit differently. I think they both know that the ‘ideal’ epilogue scenario never could’ve happened no matter what choices they made. It’s just simply too unrealistic. There’s a lot of obvious exaggerations in it like the theatre being full, Seb Kissing Mia on the first meeting, but I don’t think it’s just a stylistic choice. I think it’s making the point that there’s an ideal life we dream of and almost certainly life never works out that way. No matter what choices you make or how hard you try it’s simply not how it works. And the film concludes by saying that that’s ok. It’s ok to dream, and just because things don’t turn out the way you hope they do, it doesn’t mean it’s not a good life. Still cried like a baby 10/10
