If you’d asked me before I realized this was him, I never would’ve guessed that this came from the mind of Charlie Kaufman. It’s far too redemptive, too formally consistent with the linear formula for self-actualization that underlines most children’s fare. But of course, all of the typical Kaufman-esque anxiety is there, on full display, and it’s pretty faithful to the man’s credo, if simplistically. It’s just so odd to see him work so earnestly on something so heartwarming.
