Loaded with gorgeously precise quotidian imagery that comes alive and enters the realm of the fantastical through sheer storytelling, underpinned by deep reserves of empathy for the inner lives of young children. This is an anime “Where the Wild Things Are” for the 21st Century. Could actually be a four-star film if I rewatch it enough.
