As I revisited this I kept thinking, “I haven’t watched this enough times. I need to come back and watch it again and again.” It’s just such a thrilling, hilarious good time, but mostly what it is is a master class in rendering human relationships through action and banter. A million buddy movies have tried to do what director Martin Brest did here, which is to unite action and comedy and character seamlessly into one glorious whole, and less than one percent of them have come anywhere close to succeeding the way this movie does.
