I finally got to show this to my fourteen-year old daughter, who tends not to gravitate towards gritty, violent fare, so she hesitated. She ultimately gave it a thumbs up, but the occasion made me realize that this movie is now nine years old. It wasn’t that old in my head at all and on this rewatch it still felt vibrant and stunning, but I have to admit, what little CG there is in there is starting to show its age. That’s inevitable I guess, but it was a bit of a sad shock to me to realize that this movie, which I had assumed was going to remain youthful and immortal forever, is going to succumb to the decades just like any other. Well maybe not “just like any other,” but it’s certainly not immune to the passage of time, even if I’m sure it will also be remembered as a towering achievement for as long as people watch movies.
