Watched it a second time in preparation for movie club. This time round I noticed the stylistic borders changing from scene to scene; apart from the clearly older footage of Arthur and Beniamina, I couldn’t track what they were meant to signify. I also noticed that each time Arthur “divines” an archaeological cache, the camera turns upside down in some fashion, like he’s entering the underworld. Also, I paid a lot more attention to the hints of red string scattered throughout. Still feel like this is just an exquisitely, ornately beautiful film.
