This went right over my head when I saw it as a teenager, largely because it’s so hard core middle aged. It’s about getting through most of what people consider to be a full life and realizing you’ve never really had that epiphany of the soul that releases your inner self to the world. It’s loaded to the brim with countless tiny indignities that are also bitingly hilarious, delivered expertly by Albert Brooks’s maestro-like facial tics and gestures of resigned disappointment. Frankly, I get it now.
