Rewatched this at the insistence of my fourteen-year old who was giggling constantly throughout. I mean, she thought it was genuinely hilarious. That made me consider that maybe this is legit cinema for some people—many people?—who are not me, at this juncture in life that I’m at, with my specific sensibility and my specific artistic tastes? On the whole it’s hard to argue that this movie is poorly made, or that its structure and pacing are particularly bad. So, fine, it exists and its appeal is not meant for me, but it doesn’t have to be. At the same time, none of this means that I can’t hate it too. It’s just puerile and it aims really, really low, and if I find that offensive, that too is legit. Thanks for listening.
