I recently rewatched Multiplicity (1996) on Tubi. The storyline follows a man who is struggling to balance his job, wife and family. Lucky for him he meets a scientist willing to close him so he can be two places at once. What initially sounds like a good idea gets out of hand quick when there ends up being more than just one close of him…
This picture is directed by icon Harold Ramis (Ghostbusters) and stars Michael Keaton (Beetlejuice), Andie MacDowell (Groundhog Day), Harris Yulin (Ghostbusters II), Eugene Levy (American Pie) and Ann Cusack (Gross Pointe Blank).
This is a very unique romantic comedy during the early days of the “green screen” special effects era. Michael Keaton delivers the multiple characters, and personalities, well. The dialogue is clever and Keaton’s demeanor and delivery keep the movie entertaining from beginning to end. The romantic sequences in here are hilarious due to the vast difference in personalities of each clone. The storyline itself is fairly predictable and straightforward, but still fun to watch unfold.
In conclusion, Multiplicity is a unique addition to the romantic comedy genre with more charm than you may anticipate. I would score this a 6.5/10 and strongly recommend it.
