The casualness of young Charlie’s dad and his friend discussing murdering each other is of course theoretical and humorous while Uncle Charlie is the actual killer . He flies under the radar until he thinks he’s safe . It’s the ease and comfort of suburban living that makes us consider such things without worrying or even seriously considering it.Hitchcock turned it upside down. Uncle Charlie underestimated his innocent niece or he might have gotten away with it. The tension builds to the final confrontation and ends on a satisfying note.
Charlie’s little sister Ann is a rarity for the time in film the young female bookworm who isn’t meek or shy.She’s actually straightforward and fun to watch. Younger brother Roger also adds some needed humor.
