The concept of hope would not be fully grasped without the presence of hardship and difficulty.
It's A Wonderful Life perfectly explores these themes. The movie sets up a dark premise and just douses it with optimism. And it works. We see George give up on his dreams, lose money, and just a lot of bad luck. But he gets back up on his feet, continues being kind to everyone, does the right thing, and shows integrity. It's inspiring, honestly, because that is hard to do. What he went through was very real and it's everyday stuff so it's easy to relate to. However, George is a human being and at one point, he just breaks. But being the good man that he is, we get a Christmas miracle.
This movie is one of the best movies I've ever watched. It's a true Christmas movie that captures the season's spirit. We all go through some pretty rough patches and all we want at the end of the year is a reminder to keep going.
