Generations from now, those that watch Deadpool will ask their parents: what is a tweet?
With Deadpool & Wolverine right around the corner, it made all the right sense to revisit one of, if not the, lowest-budgeted superhero movies produced by a major studio of all time. And you know what? There is still something relatively refreshing about that despite its cliched narrative.
The "quote-unquote" edgy, meta comedy works here and there, but it never detracts from the tone it aims for. Much of its success can be attributed to Ryan Reynolds' charisma in portraying the titular character. As an origin story, the budget limitations actually work in its favor, allowing for more backstory development, including his relationship with Vanessa, which has held up well.
I remember at the time an R-rated superhero film was considered rather groundbreaking. Speaking of its action sequences, I would say they are rather tame outside of a few headshots, but it remains enjoyable enough.
