One dazzlingly constructed set piece after another, whether it’s our heroic trio thwarting some terrorists one on a plane with all manner of impossible contortions, or the way even a car crash’s flying debris and wreckage explodes with a kind of balletic grace. Michelle Yeoh frequently storms through it all in a series of sensible chunky sweaters (until the climax turns her into some cyber-tank-punk warrior, somewhere between Mad Max and The Heroic Trio). Maybe not a lot of there there, especially in the meandering stretches of trying to ignite some non-existent romantic chemistry, but gloriously alive when it’s putting its thoroughly ordinary characters through their extraordinary efforts.
