It's good. Obviously I hated Sheridan's previous scripted effort Sicario but this seems like an immense step up which perhaps comes from Mackenzie's direction: where Villeneuve adapted inconsistencies and highlighted telegraphed plot beats, Mackenzie instead chooses to focus on the relationship between two men and how this is altered by both the circumstances of their pathways and the choices they make with regard to their respective pathways, how the unforgiving road telegraphs character actions before those actions are taken. There's still too much listening and not enough looking, but this is a film that, at the very least, made me interested to keep watching.
