Longlegs cultivates an irresistible horror atmosphere with its striking visuals and pacing that keeps viewers unable to look away. Maika Monroe is an excellent, if distant, lead and Nicholas Cage plays a truly horrifying villain. The theme of familial/generational trauma is even explored pretty well through the story. It was unsettling watching characters carry out horrific acts, wanting desperately to stop, but being stuck carrying out some invisible script that’s been forced on them. My only gripes would be that I don’t feel this quite sticks the landing and that it wasn’t nearly as scary as it was marketed. But honestly this was such an engaging watch I’d definitely want a rewatch.
