A plot full of subplots only works if you're Pulp Fiction or Majora's Mask. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice tastes like a lolly— it's temporarily satisfying but nothing memorable.
The flashback sequence was great— hell, all of the scenes with Delores & Wolf Jackson were rather entertaining, but they got the not-enough-screentime treatment that Keaton got in the last film. Name-dropping Mario Bava, Charles' gravestone being a shark fin, and continuing the push for more sandworms in 2024's cinema were fun, I'll admit. The Tess Parks song was neat too. Catherine O'Hara, again, can do no wrong.
I'll be the one to say it. Aside from Ed Wood, are Burton's films really just showcases of great production design and effects, and not much else?
