Finally got around to seeing this one. It never ceases to surprise me how DreamWorks can go from making the abomination that was "Megamind vs The Doom Syndicate" to this.
While I wouldn't say it's perfect (the first quarter of this film was really hard for me to get into), it's still a pretty great film and it gets better as it goes along. The characters were all really enjoyable to watch and it was nice watching them develop throughout the film. Did it lead to some moments feeling cheesy? Yeah. But they were still executed in a way that made them feel endearing. The animation is amazing to look at, and I'm glad to see the storybook artstyle from "Puss in boots 2" get carried over into this film. Also, I was not prepared for the amount of dark humor that was in this film. But I also really liked how they don't shy away from some heavy moments.
I will probably need a rewatch to enjoy it on the same level as everyone else, but for now, I really liked this film.
