Oh man, I wish this landed for me. The best kids movies have an amazing ability to not feel like kids movies at all, and sadly this oftentimes did to a fault. Cliche beats are aplenty, as well as overbearing music to let you know they’re happening. Also, am I going crazy or is pacing all but lost as an artform in kids movies? And I’m not talking story pacing, just the simple moment to moment pacing within/connecting scenes. Everything is so snappy, I wanna breathe dangit! This is nowhere close to the borderline naturalistic patience of the best parts of Wall-E, The Incredibles or Ratatouille, nor are any of the characters anywhere close to as memorable. Am I going to remember Fink in a few months? Sadly not. I would’ve loved to be wowed by this, but for me it was just a passable time at the movies. C’est la vie!
