“if I'm gonna die, i'm gonna die historic on the fury road!”
been meaning to give this film a rewatch for quite some time now, but with me seeing Furiosa later, i felt there was no better time then now.
the only other time i’ve watched this film was in my english class through a four day span (what a garbage viewing experience😭). at that time i also wasn’t as into film as i am now, so when i got letterboxd i was never quite sure what rating to give this; because i remembered liking it, but i knew i’d need to give it a proper watch to grasp my thoughts better. now, after finally rewatching it, i can confidently say this film BANGS.
intense, adrenaline rushing, chaotic, gritty, non-stop action from beginning to end, never boring me once—and that’s impressive. pure action films like John Wick aren’t really my cup of tea, i find them to feel incredibly repetitive & shallow, making them quite boring and never peaking my interest. however, that is not a feeling i get here with Fury Road. this films pacing is perfection, and has a perfect blend between its storytelling and constant action sequences.
the visuals are very cool too. i think there is definitely a stylistic choice here through both the visuals & editing, and while it might not be my personal favourite, i do very much enjoy this style for this film—due to how cool & unique it feels. and then of course, the cinematography is gorgeous.
i really like all of the characters, along with each performance given. Tom Hardy gives such a gritty and cool performance through every mumble that comes out of his mouth, Charlize Theron is amazing and steals every scene she’s in, and i love Nicholas Holut as Nux—such a great performance and character. (he’s going to be amazing as Lex Luther)
overall i really like this film. fantastic action, fantastic visuals, fantastic characters, and really just an awesome but intense time through this dystopian world. i’m pretty torn between rating this a high 4 or 4.5 right now, but i’m hoping after Furiosa i’ll be able to settle on one of the two.
