This hasn’t been my year for hyped-up films, and unfortunately Longlegs was no exception. While the cinematography and editing were strong, creating an ominous atmosphere that immediately caught my attention, the story fell flat for me. The film failed to deliver any real scares, and it makes me wonder why people are calling it the scariest movie of the year. To each their own, I suppose, but the suspense and tension never reached the level I expected.
That being said, Nicholas Cage was a standout in the film. His performance as the titular villain brought an eccentric and unsettling energy to the screen, and the cast also did a solid job with their roles. I just wish they had better material to work with to elevate the story. Ultimately, Longlegs felt like a missed opportunity. It had all the right ingredients—great cinematography, a compelling villain, and an intriguing premise—but it never fully realized its potential.
