Director Assayas has fashioned a very slight relationship drama that takes place in the countryside he more successfully explored in his (far superior) film Summer Hours. The characters here are so uninteresting and weaky drawn, and there's a sense of indulgence throughout that makes you think that these protagonists are hardly doing it tough during this COVID lockdown period. The cinematography has a warmth to it, but the screenplay is meandering and pretentious. Vincent Macaigne, always an interesting actor, brings some enjoyment to the role of the filmmaker, obviously a stand-in for Assayas himself.
