JessePnkmn’s review published on Letterboxd:
Halina Reijn directs a funny and particular slasher able to surprise even the most clever spectator and that also presents a slight social criticism
"Bodies Bodies Bodies" is a pure murder mystery in Agatha Christie’s style that works well thanks to a good direction, setting and photography but especially for its characters.
They are all damn stupid and represented as the classic archetypes of the 20-somethig in the digital era, so perfectly unpleasant their writing is brilliant and functional to the plot as well as the cleverly stupid dialogues that manage to be very funny.
Their sad and common existence is hidden behind material wealth and appearances, with the atmosphere that despite the party suggests a constant feeling of secrets and unresolved problems, a tension destined to explode with the beginning of the game that gives the title to the work.
In this sense the whole search for the murderer, which is configured as a social metaphor always within the boundaries of comedy, will see them accuse each other in a ruthless all against all until the shocking and unexpected end
I followed the investigation of the characters like a Sherlock Holmes wannabe trying to write down in my mind the various movements and positions of the characters to draw up my personal list of suspects and once arrived at the end I felt so stupid (hopefully not more than them).
To be honest my biggest fear was that the one I feared was the psychopath in the final sequence before the revelation was the same I crushed on, which wouldn’t have been so strange in my life but still rather sad
"Bodies Bodies Bodies" is a very funny and well-made horror comedy that targets a certain youth culture slave of internet and prefab thoughts, the perfect mix between a healthy dose of idiocy and a critical reflection on relationships, identity of thought and anxieties nowadays
