After Coffin finds out her little sister has been maimed by contaminated drugs, she sets out on a quest to find the people responsible.
I really enjoyed the vibe of this film, and it packs quite the punch! Normally action thrillers aren't my thing, but this had a lot of style. The story ended up being more captivating than I expected, and it benefited from having emotional grounding that fueled her need for revenge. Although some scenes are quite uncomfortable, I like the thematic condemnation of police/political corruption, drug pushers and the horrible role those groups play in perpetuating systemic abuse.
And Pam Grier is AWESOME as Coffin. Every scene she's in feels as if she commands the room, bringing an energy and intensity that is unmatched. She also just seems really cool and sure of herself, which is so fun to root for as a viewer. The contrast in her character is also very interesting. She spends her life trying to nurture others and is, in fact, a nurse. But when someone or something threatens the people she loves, there's a complete flip as she's willing to kill in order to prevent further harm.
The story could have been a little more nuanced in areas, and the runtime could have benefited from being longer so that it could better build up to the climax. But overall a pretty good watch!
