Jason Alley🏳️🌈🐻’s review published on Letterboxd:
Absolutely loved this and had so much fun! Took me a few minutes to adjust but once I did it was just consistently delightful.
I will go to bat for a lot more of Tim Burton’s post-Sleepy Hollow output than many people (especially Dark Shadows, Big Fish, Sweeney Todd, Corpse Bride, and Frankenweenie) but even for me this felt like Tim Burton getting his mojo back. Love the copious practical effects and elaborate real sets so much. It also gets genuinely gross and macabre in ways that his films haven’t in decades!
Probably a 4/5 if I’m being super honest, but I’m giving it the extra half star bump for being so Halloween-y and finally getting me in the Halloween spirit for the year!! 🎃
