The Halloween franchise has meant so much to me ever since I was a kid, and is my favorite franchise behind Scream. This trilogy is my favorite in the franchise and I was very intrigued to see how they were going to tie everything together and you know what? The absolutely nailed it. I loved it.
I can definitely see how this will be the most divisive film in the trilogy for many reasons. I can also see people being disappointed if they’re expecting the bloodbath that Kills was. This is a very different Halloween film 100%, and I respect what they did. It’s more contained, slower paced, and has a lot more character building throughout. All of those elements mixed with a Laurie Strode who is no longer living in fear really made this a fantastic send off for our beloved franchise (for now) and our beloved final girl.
The opening scene was jarring yet fantastic in setting the tone. Seeing Allyson, Laurie, and Lindsey all shine in their own ways and especially Allyson. She’s such a great character and seeing her have this inner struggle throughout was really interesting. Rohan Campbell gives a great performance as Corey, who is actually a very complicated character. Seeing Laurie and Frank again made my heart so warm and happy.
While the twist isn’t going to please everyone, I really liked it and thought it made for some great kills throughout. Less kills than the previous entires but still very gnarly and effective. Carpenter’s score is incredible, the homages to Halloween III, lots of great emotional elements, more callbacks and homages to the 1978 film, and Laurie’s ending. Just beautiful.
