i was looking forward to seeing this one for quite a while and it finally came to the theater near me and i wasn’t going to turn down $5.99 Tuesday either. do NOT watch this if you hate sex in movies lmao, i think there was a sex scene about every 10 minutes, probably the most hypersexual film i’ve seen in a while. Emma Stone gives the performance of a lifetime here, i was moved to tears at a few points, absolutely stunning performance, i am really hoping she gets the Oscar for best actress (again!). Willem Dafoe was pretty great too and honestly i feel like he should’ve gotten the best supporting actor nomination over Mark Ruffalo, but i guess the Academy hates nominating Willem Dafoe. not that Mark Ruffalo was bad, i thought he was good, but not best supporting actor good, if that even makes sense
gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous set design and cinematography, the way every location is shown and built mixed with the steampunk elements works incredibly well, with some of the prettiest skies i’ve seen. very reminiscent of the films of Terry Gilliam like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998) or Brazil (1985)
overall, i really enjoyed Poor Things and i’m happy that i was finally able to see it. shocked this got a nomination for Best Picture though, i figured the council was a bunch of prudish old men. maybe i’ve been proven wrong
