During the arms deal scene, as they enter the nightclub, Pray for Me by Kendrick Lamar featuring the Weeknd is playing. In the context/atmosphere of the scene, it is background pop music to be played at clubs or bars. However, this is a song from the soundtrack of the film. Does this mean that the 2018 Ryan Coogler MCU film Black Panther exists within the world of the 2018 Ryan Coogler MCU film I just saw...Black Panther? Did the filmmakers have to pay royalties to Kendrick Lamar & the Weeknd, real life artists, for composing the song within the world of the film that they simultaneously inhabit? Did the proprietors of the Korean club in Busan have to pay royalties to the artists & film in order to play the song in their club...while also being in the film at the same time? What must the characters be thinking/feeling as they hear this song that’s background pop music at a club that’s from the soundtrack of the very film they’re living in? This existential fourth wall crisis has unhinged me to my core, such that I am seeking psychiatric aid. Please send help.
