Rewatched Jul 20, 2019

I shouldn't have let so much time pass between first and second viewings. La La Land is pure bittersweet Hollywood magic full of insanely good music that stirs the soul. From the energetic opening number uniquely set in the midst of L.A. traffic, everything I felt that I expressed in my first review, I felt even more this second time. I absolutely love how Chazelle blends the heightened reality only found in musicals with real-world authenticity, full of intense pain and joy and awkwardness and uncertainty. A world where dreams come at a high cost and there are no easy answers. Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling could not be more perfect.
