Completely shaken. To a point of realization that everything only serves an imperialist fantasy that America wishes to push forward knowing that the apocalypse will be looming. Completely shaken to a point of realization that you're just going to be seen as a tool for American supremacy, rather than to achieve something that the scientific world can remember yourself by. All these moments are what makes a film like Oppenheimer stick so firmly in your mind, because it gives us exactly the same anxiety that J. Robert Oppenheimer had been feeling in the days leading up to the Trinity test, and the aftermath of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
This is Christopher Nolan's very best film in my eyes. It feels like it's as much a film about Oppenheimer's world as it is about Oppenheimer himself. Truly staggering in all the best ways possible.
