Got a chance to see this in a cinema in glorious 4K, and boy am I happy I took that opportunity. This was the best cinema experience I’ve ever had. It made me fall in love with this film again.
When I was younger, I’d always loved film, but Goodfellas made me adore cinema, and truly think deeply about it. Ray Liotta, Lorraine Bracco, Paul Sorvino, Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci ALL bring their fucking A-game. They can have you laughing one second, then terrified the next. That’s the caliber of acting this film has.
Martin Scorsese is my favourite director, and Goodfellas is his masterpiece. He will never make anything better than Goodfellas ever. Sure he may come close, like last year, but this is truly his best.
The reason this isn’t my number one favourite is because of the emotions I get from watching Once Upon A Time In America, that I cannot get from any other film. But other than that, this is a masterpiece, and I don’t trust anyone who doesn’t rate this a 5
