Highlights while watching the 2024 Annie Awards:
- It had a shitty start. The first host was unfunny in an annoying way, and the second set of hosts were really trying their best but I felt really bad because they were pretty cringe. There were a lot of missed cues and videos played in the wrong order. Thankfully the hosts got better over time.
- The Nimona directors as hosts were EASILY the best award presenters. They were SO GOOD.
- CHLOE GRACE MORETZ WON THE VA AWARD LETS GOOOOO
- Screecher's Reach best direction!!!!
- It is REALLY wild that one of the Spider-Verse directors basically said "Yeah, animation is hard, but once you're done with us, you're free to leave!" As if the reason your animators were struggling were because animation is hard in general and not BECAUSE PRODUCTION FOR ATSV WAS ACTUAL HELL. Bugger off.
- Was kinda hoping Suzume would win anything, but oh well
- A LOT of people's speeches were cut off by the music, so uh, that was unprofessional
- Justice for the Japanese translator
- Hot take, but Spider-Verse should NOT have won best editing at all. Not because of the sweep, but because its editing gave me headache at certain points. Either Elemental or Nimona could've won.
- Kind of the worst Annie Awards ceremony so far this decade, but hey, at least the nominations were STACKED
