Decided to use this to review SMG4's It's Gotta Be Perfect movie.
Generally, I like the message and what it's trying to portray. And I admire how it's saying something about the way SMG4's fanbase is treating his work: rather than politely discussing perspectives, just automatically they get into wars on old vs new. And it does have moments of sentiment between 3 and 4.
That being said, it is still very flawed. It feels like it's trying to capture the horror of the 10th anniversary movie that was novel at the time but just isn't now. The army subplot was super boring.
But by far the worst thing about this movie is Meggy, which hurts to say because Meggy was at one point my favourite thing about SMG4. And she's not bad in here, but her inclusion by itself is problematic. I do not know, if they've got nothing left for her to do, why they keep inserting her into everything ever. This kneecaps her character so hard because she's gone from complex character to generic action chick. And her comedy is lacking nowadays. Everyone agrees you should've just taken cues from the 2017 run and make her the laid-back straight man of the group again.
