With Kung Fu Panda 4 bombing, Despicable Me 2 being something that did actually happen to us, and Dreamworks formulating a process to cryogenically freeze Mike Myers, to reach their Shrek 37 ambitions, The Wild Robot showcases the true power of stand-alone features.
Unfortunately, all the muppets who propelled Inside Out 2 to a billion dollars at the box office, have resigned us to animated sequel purgatory for the next decade, but the overwhelmingly positive consensus of this film, both financially and rating wise, indicate we may still have 1% of hope as a society. Receiving the Transformers One treatment, it almost seemed like Dreamworks wanted this one to fail, in the hopes they could return to making How to Train Your Dragon films. However, they kind of forgot to take all their best producers and visual artists off the project before trying to bomb it.
Popularised by The Last Wish, the art style oozes class in every single frame, to a point you don’t even need to hear any dialogue to have a good time. Despite no early 2000’s Pixar life lesson to be learned, the most important thing Dreamworks have finally begun to grasp, is the idea of emotional intelligence. As equally humorous as it is distressing, it’s just ultimately just such a warm hug, and it’s exactly what the animation genre has sorely missed, since they started trying to cast the most well-known names they could, instead of working on the project itself.
Pedro Pascal is also NOT in this film, you lot can never gaslight me into thinking the fox is him.
