Third time's the charm.
Though the first viewing was a better experience since it was the first UK screening and the hype was through the roof but I've never needed to pee more so that kind of ruined the second half for me.
The second viewing I enjoyed it, but I was more apprehensive. I felt the montages skim the story too much (something that I loved before) and my family said they preferred the alternative ending which got me questioning, is the only reason Chazelle went for the bittersweet ending just to be different? Is it really honest?
On third viewing I realized what he was saying. Yes it's honest, but that's not the point. The other ending would've been honest too. The point is that the most powerful relationships that can change the course of our lives can be fleeting. What La La Land offers is unconditional love for those people even if we lose connection. That's its gift.
