- Osgood continues the Perkins tradition of making movies about fucked up moms.
- Sound design is wonderful and without it this movie would lose 90% of its power.
- Speaking of effective sound, I was surprised at just how much John Carpenter influence there is here — wide shots creating ominous negative space, slickness, the sheer sense of coldness.
- Ominous is the word I would use to describe this movie. Ominous ominous ominous. Creepy too.
- Lots of things work well here, so it’s disappointing how weak the story itself is.
- Nicolas Cage. I loved the way this movie treats his character like a big movie monster — only glimpses at first, and when we’re finally face to face with the creature, we hope it’s worth the wait, and my god, it is here. I found it genuinely hard to look at his face during the interrogation scene. Phenomenal acting and makeup work.

- This movie reminded me of The Black Phone.
- This reinforces my belief that some of the scariest shit in the world happens behind the closed doors of the suburbs.
- Seeing this in 35mm felt special. All the hype around this movie reminded me of how stoked people were to see Halloween (2018). Seeing that felt like an event, and it’s heartening to see people similarly excited to watch this. Horror’s been big lately. That’s a reflection of the times, but at least we can commiserate together in the theatre.
