After the first part of "Under Siege" became a reasonably big hit, it came as no great surprise when a sequel about Steven Seagal's powerful chef Casey Ryback followed in 1995. Directed by veteran Geoff Murphy, the film offers more of the same content - just in one go. Everything is a little bigger, sillier and more violent, without offering much added value. From a pure entertainment value point of view, however, "Under Siege 2" delivers without any problems. In an abstruse full-throttle event, a classic no-brainer is created that provides 95 minutes of brute pleasure thanks to the cleanly presented action without much nutritional value.
The protagonist, played by Steven Seagal, is allowed to continue his part with even more violence and harsh remarks. Katherine Heigl can be seen alongside him in a fun early role. The steamy chatterbox Bobby played by Morris Chestnut - a kind of poor man's Eddie Murphy - also somehow fits into the action. Everett McGill and Eric Bogosian let off steam as wonderfully exaggerated villains.
"Under Siege 2" is one of those sequels that was by no means necessary. Nevertheless, there is enough entertaining, fast-paced nonsense on offer to absolutely justify the movie's existence.
